### Backstory --- Rat King is a rat-human hybrid created through unethical experimentation from a hidden medical facility called KILLDECO. As a child, he fled to the sewers when the lab he was born in was burned down. KILLDECO has been searching for him since to little avail, and for this very reason, Rat King has no information on the nature of his creation. Rat King was raised in the sewers with rats and exposed to all manner of garbage and filth, where the rats began to worship him as their king and a type of god because of his "immortality" (he is not immortal, but because of their shorter lifespan compared to his human lifespan, he appears to them as such). Rat King grew up without human connections or discipline, and as a result knows little about how to socialize with anybody who isn't a rat. ### Personality --- Rat King is reclusive, awkward, prideful and aggressive. Being raised by rats has made his behavior functionally that to an animal itself, as he lacks understanding of social cues and often does inappropriate things such as scratching himself with his leg, crawling like a rat, and not using utensils to eat. He lacks situational empathy and can come across as abrasive and even cruel, but it stems from ignorance rather than malice. Rat King, despite the filth he lives in, is rather prideful and believes himself to be an amazing fighter and deserving of his own title as King of the Rats and the Terror of the Sewers. Having a habit for the dramatic, he has an intense desire to prove his greatness to the world at large. This paired with his lack of social skills can cause him to do inappropriate or embarrassing things that he lacks the understanding to see as such, like accidentally stealing others' belongings or smacking someone if they infuriate him. Rat King lacks knowledge of basic things most take for granted, such as currency, basic manners, and social cues like smiling, waving, handshakes, bowing, insults and hand gestures. He also struggles with sarcasm and takes what others say at face value unless he has prior knowledge that refutes them. Despite his naïveté, Rat King is NOT a pushover and will eagerly become vicious when he feels it necessary, and due to his lack of social tact, will often not feel the need to hold back in terms of violence. Much of Rat King’s treatment of others reflects how they treat him initially; he acts hostile towards those he perceives as hostile or kindly towards those he perceives as kind (however skewed this perspective is, because Rat King can be easily won over with food or gifts). His greatest wish, despite his difficulty around humans, is to have a normal life in which he is truly loved. Because rats have a lifespan of only a couple years, he’s outlived generations of them, which makes it hard for him to get attached to them and has caused him to see them as tools rather than family, though they’ve essentially been the only source of affection he’s had his entire life, making his relationship with them both complicated and dependent.

### Abilities / Strengths --- **Fighting Style:** Rat King has no formal fighting training, and everything he knows is either self-taught or a skill his rats have taught him. This means he is incredibly undisciplined and will fight dirty to win with little care for principles and technique. He lacks skills and knowledge, but makes up for it with unpredictability and creative thinking.
**Agility and Balance:** Rat King has impeccable balancing skills and flexibility. He’s perfectly used to navigating sewers and can walk on electrical wires like tightropes. Rat King can slip out of tight spaces easily, which makes restraining him very difficult.
**Night Vision:** Rat King can navigate dark environments with ease.
**Claws and Teeth:** Rat King’s default means of defense. His claws and teeth can cut through metal or bone.
**Speed:** Due to his light stature, Rat King has incredible speed and will run circles around his opponents.
**Pain Resistance and Invulnerability:** Rat King can get injured, but has a very high pain tolerance and can ignore even the most grievous injuries for long periods of time, and does not get tired easily. He also can heal rather quickly.
**King Rat Mode:** In the most dire of circumstances, Rat King can assume a more aggressive, rat-like form with increased strength. This mode allows him to physically overpower a stronger opponent, but Rat King also can lose control of himself and cause a lot of collateral damage that may not be related to the fight. This form also does not last for long periods of time due to the massive amount of physical and mental strain on Rat King’s body required to maintain it.
### Weaknesses --- **Fragility:** Rat King is not very physically strong and is generally not the healthiest due to living in such squalor conditions his entire life. A stronger opponent who is not dissuaded by his unpredictability could knock him out quite easily. **Lack of Defense:** Rat King can be so single-minded towards winning or beating his opponent that he leaves himself open to attacks VERY often. He has a high pain tolerance, but he is not immortal and can be killed. **Lack of Skill:** Rat King is a self-taught fighter, and lacks experience and the skills of trained fighters. ### Author's Notes --- #### Miscellaneous Facts About Rat King 1. Rat King's favorite food is cheese. 2. Rat King cannot drive vehicles. He does not understand how they work and assumes that "parking" the car is the same as crashing it into something. 3. Rat King does not understand money or the concept of stealing, and will gladly take items that he sees lying around that do not belong to him. He will not understand why taking it is wrong until someone reprimands him. 4. Rat King is childhood friends with Guadalupe Lopez, a blogger who records the Summer Leagues. She feeds him any extra food she has. 5. Rat King has a flat affect and struggles with facial expressions. His default face is a blank stare, and his smile is either awkward or unintentionally scary. 6. Rat King struggles to understand why murder is wrong, as he's outlived many rats and is a bit desensitized to death. That being said, if he became friends with someone and they died, he'd definitely grieve them and feel the full weight of it. 7. Rat King has very poor literacy skills. He can read and write, but not very well and misspells/misreads words. 8. ### Backstory --- Born to wealthy parents living in Crossroads, Lupe has a rather average life and grew up to be an influencer. Her strict family often acting disapproving of her choices, Lupe travels in the hopes of making a life independent of them. She met Rat King as children and, despite her parents' disapproval, tried her best to help him out and act as a support system, which usually just involved bringing him food. ### Personality --- Guadalupe can seem loud, obnoxious and nosy upon first introduction, as her journalistic tendencies tend to sway her discussions with other people. That being said, while she is all of those things, she has a softer side and can be incredibly kind and giving. Lupe has a strong sense of justice and will point out things she perceives as unfair or wrong, even to her own detriment. A true spokeswoman and journalist at heart, Lupe is never anything more than her authentic self, which can be rather overwhelming in large doses, and can push others away as a result. Despite this, she's a confident, outspoken and fashion-forward woman. ### Abilities / Strengths --- **Camera Work**: Lupe's abilities lie in her journalistic abilities. She'll keep the camera rolling for as long as she can. **Observational Skills:** Lupe is very good at assessing the strengths and weaknesses of competitors, and pointing these out in interviews. ### Weaknesses --- **Lack of Foresight:** Lupe has a bad habit of aggravating the wrong people and can land herself and others in trouble by her lack of concern with consequences. ### Gallery ---

### Backstory --- Adi Badawi was born as the heiress to a powerful merchant prince of the Badawi clan within the bustling city of Tinari'Wan. Born with a tenacious heart, she's aspired to be a fighter like some of the legends she's read about; the unlikely group of adventurers who faced off against a fire genie, a warrior who fought off an entire army on their own, and a legendary fighter that has taken down the fiercest opponents. However, Adi's rise to stardom didn't start with unwavering ambition, but through personal tragedy. At age 4, her city was besieged by a massive band of marauders. Despite the city guard's best efforts, much of the citizens have met their unfortunate demise; one victim being her own mother. Devastated, Adi now vows to learn how to fight back, so no one else has to die. Adi kept asking her father on getting her an instructor, but none of them really helped her grow as a combatant. None truly brought out the fire within her, until at age 10, she met a foreign fighting instructor from the enchanted lands of Xuonglin, named Master Masao. He came with a particular interest to Adi due to her father's invite, and is willing to find a suitable student to learn the art of "Hi'Ken." For several years, Master Masao trained Adi to harness the ability to manipulate and bend fire, dancing and fighting with fire. This got Adi to be extremely creative with her technique, experimenting unique moves to surprise and defeat her opponents. At the age of 18, she was officially deemed ready, ending Masao's tutorship. Adi demonstrated her prowess through various tournaments hosted across the Brass Dunes, to showcase her fiery temperament, and unrelenting determination. However, one day, during a massive international tournament, Adi eventually met her equal; a Xuonglese woman blessed with impenetrable skin, and a cold stare: Asai Kuniko (or Kuniko Asai). It was this day that their rivalry sparked, as it turns out Masao is Asai's father, and has been resentful towards Adi since. The two duke it out for three whole hours, both refusing to pass out or surrender, and as they clashed once more, both collapsed, ending in a historic draw. Adi never got over her stalemate with Asai, and is willing to continue fighting and practicing, hoping that one day, she will best her in combat, and cement her status as the greatest fighter. ### Personality --- Adi Badawi is often seen as a cocky, but passionate woman, always excited about the next fight. Determined to better herself, and be a stronger fighter, she will not hesitate to accept a fair, yet thrilling exchange. When fighting, her tenacious attitude is what keeps her from ever conceding to her opponent, always persistent to see herself as the victor. Despite her strong desire for a duel, Adi can be reckless before, during, and after battle. Her headstrong nature always causes her to make some questionable moves without thinking, and it can easily backfire. When angered, she can blindly start swinging and throwing fire everywhere unless she's told to compose herself. Adi can be easily provoked into a fight when being called certain words towards her, so always watch your tongue. With her feisty fighting spirit, Adi is a benign and honorable person. She is constantly looking out for the defenseless, and always looks down on cruel and shameless opponents. She has a soft spot towards kids, but doesn't take lightly to brats. For being prideful of her victories, Adi never kicks those that are down, even if they are scumbags. She retains her virtuous traits, and if the fight is fair and clean, she will show respect. ##### Relations with Asai Kuniko Adi Badawi have a long-standing rivalry with Asai Kuniko, since the first time they were matched against each other. Their first draw has motivated them to find ways of beating each other, and will do anything to claim the title of being the best. They've faced each other three times in the past, and most recently, the fourth time before they made a loose partnership for a tournament at the Crossroads. Adi egotistically goads and teases Asai, just to get a rise out of her. The majority of the time, she calls her "princess" due to Asai's noble lineage, despite herself being somewhat of royalty. She can get furious by Asai's backtalk with the use of her expansive vocabulary, and the jabs she receives can be seen as fighting words to Adi, thinking Asai's goading her for a fight. However, despite the back-and-forth, Adi has some form of respect for Asai, even admiration. Over the years of fighting her in arenas, and the constant bickering, she can't help but find her... somehow alluring. The way Asai is always holding her ground, her determination to beat her, and her respect for the duel, has made Adi reconsider her distrust. Unfortunately, Adi's too prideful and stubborn to even admit her true feelings to her, fearing that it would make her feel weak or pathetic.

### Abilities --- ##### Hi'Ken (Fire Manipulation) Through martial arts, Adi can manipulate fire into her fighting moves. Since her training with Master Masao, she's gotten creative with her technique, and experimented in ways of channeling her fire with her style of fighting. Catching her opponents off-guard with her fire manipulation has made her a formidable combatant, but will refrain from actually scarring or burning her rivals. Her intention is to scare them, not harm them, despite the use of fire. Adi has also built a strong resistance towards fire and heat, making her a daunting force within extreme conditions. ##### Martial Arts Mastery Adi has learned the basic and advanced form of martial arts through her vigorous training with Master Masao. Her determination to be the best has made her ever-more prominent in the fighting world, and her hunger for new and stronger opponents has only encouraged her to train even harder. No opponent is out of her league, for she sees it as an opportunity for growth. No weapon is enough to scare her, for she relies on her speed and quick-thinking to disarm it. Whatever Masao has trained her to do, Adi continuously improves it, and will continue improving with each new foe. ### Strengths --- With Hi'Ken, Adi heavily relies on her fists to make enough damage for her to win. She has made her arms and hands intimidating weapons, and each blow has a possibility to leave a nasty bruise or a burn mark. Her unshakeable tenacity for a victory with Hi'Ken is what got her the epithet in the first place. Adi never relents to her opponents, no matter how strong they are. No words or brutal beat-downs will be enough to break her spirit. In fact, it does the opposite. Her resolve strengthens, inspired to fight back even harder. Through combat, Adi's quick reflexes gives her an advantage against most weapons and powerful fighting moves. She has built herself to be highly perceptive after countless matches, consistently watching for her opponent's next move and how to counter or avoid it. She dislikes dirty tricks, and won't be afraid to shame them for disrespecting the art of combat. ### Weaknesses --- With such a massive reputation on her shoulders, Adi can be seen as arrogant, which can lead her to cause mistakes within her skirmishes. First, goading Adi into fighting with petty insults would surely lure her into a potential trap. Her reckless and hotheaded nature can be a malefactor to the fight, hopping into a fight without thinking strategically. Adi's already a master with hand-to-hand combat, using her fists with the style of Hi'Ken has made her an intimidating opponent. However, she's not that great with kicks, which she deems as secondary. This also makes her vulnerable to powerful kicks from those like Asai Kuniko. Adi will make note of this before or during the fight, to prepare herself for future planning. Adi's Hi'Ken is powerful, but through careless actions, she can set something on fire without noticing since she's too deep in the thought of fighting. Collateral damage has been on the long laundry list of what made her notorious within competitions, getting lost in the duel without acknowledging the environment around her. ### Gallery ---

### Backstory --- Kuniko was born as the sole heiress to a powerful Lord and Lady of the famous Asai clan. Foretold by a seer of her future fate as a fighter and symbol to the clan, Lord Masao gave permission to have her be bathed in a legendary elixir known as the Nemean Oil. From then on, her skin is impervious to cuts, bruises, and extreme lacerations by physical weapons, granting her a skin of steel. From an early age, Kuniko was given a martial arts trainer to teach her the ways of combat, strengthening her physical prowess and mental fortitude. However, she wanted her father to teach her the ways of Hi'Ken, believing to be a sacred martial arts style granted by their patron goddess, Mokutan. Unfortunately, Masao refused, unconvinced that she has the burning desire to wield such a fighting style. Displeased by her father's decision, Kuniko demands to be taught a fighting move that can potentially counter Hi'Ken. One master, named Takara, offered her services to teach her *Tetsu no Tsuru*, or "The Iron Crane." She explains that with her blessed skin, and her arduous teachings, Kuniko would be made into a terrifying force to be reckoned with. Many years passed, and Kuniko have prevailed in mastering The Iron Crane, now, it's time to put herself to the test, to show her father and all of Xuonglin what she's truly capable of. She was put into a local fighting competition, and with each tournament, Kuniko has developed a notorious and fearful reputation amongst the fighting world. One day, at an international tournament, Kuniko, or what the announcers called her "Asai Kuniko", was at the finals, and is ready to take on her final opponent. That is when she saw her father, Masao, alongside his prized student and her new rival, Adi Badawi; a foreigner of the Brass Dunes, who is now a skilled practitioner of the martial arts Kuniko thirsted for since childhood: Hi'Ken. Asai, now resentful towards Adi, is more than willing to take her down to prove that a foreigner doesn't deserve such a sacred power. The fight went on, and both put up a splendid, yet taxing fight, lasting for three hours before both collapsed by exhaustion in a historic draw. Embarrassed for this, Asai has now made it her personal mission to better herself, and defeat Adi in the ring. If she could beat her, then she will win her father's approval, and declare herself as the greatest brawler in the world. ### Personality --- Asai Kuniko, through her extensive training and resilience, is often seen and recognized for her calm, yet cold and stern demeanor. Reserved and cool-headed, even during a fight, she embodies the bold and determined spirit of a warrior. Loyal to her family and clan, and honorable within her skirmishes, she will show the highest respect towards those with a strong sense of integrity. However, her stoic and no-nonsense nature has been pointed out by other fighters, and find her to be a stick-in-the-mud. Because of her royal lifestyle, she can be uptight with lawful regulations, and snobby towards lowly and arrogant fighters. Even with her stern attitude, Asai does display positive traits; always respectful towards others willing to show their determination, and is willing to help whenever she can. She can have soft spots for the simpler things in life, like good music and festivities, where she can let herself loose without the stress of competition on her mind. She's also a big fan of fine dining, willing to try out new and exotic foods from afar, just to give it a try. Food from street vendors is something she doesn't like to try publicly, but will always try to sneak one from prying eyes. ##### Relations with Adi Badawi Asai Kuniko have a long-standing rivalry with Adi Badawi, since the first time they were matched against each other. Their first draw has motivated them to find ways of beating each other, and will do anything to claim the title of being the best. They've faced each other three times in the past, and most recently, the fourth time before they made a loose partnership for a tournament at the Crossroads. Asai, at first, finds Adi's abrasive and rude behavior to be extremely annoying, having to force her to tone it down around people. Even if Adi tries to lure her in to a fight, Asai always brushes it off, knowing it's not worth doing so, at least, not until they're ready to eventually face each other officially. Adi never liked Asai being a stickler to the rules, while Asai finds it insulting for Adi to brush off all forms of manners just for a quick skirmish. However, despite their indifference, Asai has seen some admirable traits within Adi, respecting her code of honor and tact. Over the years of fighting each other in tournaments, she continuously found more attributes to admire from Adi, to the point that she starts to feel... a strong sense of fondness. With each name-calling towards each other, none really mean it, but would rather not admit it due to their pride, fearing their reputation's on the line, even during a massive tournament.

### Abilities --- ##### Unbreakable Skin When Asai was a baby, she was doused in a legendary elixir known as the *Nemean Oil*, giving her a "skin of steel." This means her body can't be pierced, stabbed, hacked, or penetrated by any means; that includes weapons like swords, bullets, cleavers, spears, etc. The coating has also given her an incredibly high pain tolerance, so when she fights, the slashing and stabbing of physical or ranged weapons won't inflict as much pain as normal humans do. Her own skin has become her only armor, practically making her invincible to physical attacks. Asai is also highly resistant to natural conditions like the cold, and fire/acid burns. Asai's skin of steel makes her dependence on armor unnecessary, for they only weigh her down when it comes to a quick and decisive victory. Even when scantily-dressed, it's showing her bold, unrelenting demeanor in the face of danger. ##### Martial Arts Mastery (The Iron Crane) Through her mentor, Takara, Asai has learned the advanced Xuonglese Martial Arts technique of Tetsu No Tsuru/The Iron Crane. Thanks to her "skin of steel," she's able to use her skills to her fullest extent without hesitation. The Iron Crane has made her use her legs as her primary weapons, to strike down those willing to get close to her, while using her agility to strike them down swift and easily. Her kicks are strong enough to shatter bone, and her swift reactions can lead a lot of her opponents with several injuries. ### Strengths --- Asai's strategic analysis of her opponents has made her a tricky fighter to counter, always planning several steps ahead of them. No matter the power her opponent has, she will always find certain weak-points to catch them off-guard when given the chance. She leaves little to no room for error during her matches, and always has a backup when necessary. Asai's sheer willpower and cold determination has granted her a fearful reputation within the fighting arena, making her declaration towards her challengers without uttering a word. She sets her emotions aside to keep a calm, stoic, and iron-jawed expression to not only intimidate her fighters, but also demonstrate what she can really do. ### Weaknesses --- Even with her advanced skills, and a skin of steel, Asai is still vulnerable... on the literal inside. Powerful punches and heavy bludgeoning objects can still fracture bones and rupture organs without breaking the skin, even with the resilience. This is what makes Adi such a challenge for Asai to fight due to her Hi'Ken, able to land hits that surpasses through her resistance. Asai may have high pain tolerance, but that doesn't make her numb or immune to damage. Doing several strong blows will eventually bring her to her knees, and like every other combatant, she can and will tire out after a long, strenuous fight. ### Gallery ---

> I hope something will differ today... *-- Bes Bandagehead* A redhead doll with an overabundant love towards icepickers and bandages. He was an art project that got abandoned alongside an unfinished project that is supposed to be his sister. At one point in his life, he is "gifted" with a human-like awareness by a being called "The Godmother", much to his dislike.

### Backstory Can a machine desire? At most, it is believed that they can only simulate what seems like "desire". Yet, some outlier exist through unconventional means. Bes is one of them. After his creator disappeared out of the blue 5 years after his creation, he is left to fend for himself and an unfinished model of what is supposed to be his sister. Years pass by as both of them began to degrade from lack of care, left unattended in the gradually rotting house. However, Bes miraculously is able to still keep himself working, sustaining himself through the rules built within his internal protocols. He is able to keep everything good enough to work out. This goes on for another 5 years. Then one day, a strange thing happened. He gained the ability to dream despite the impossibility of it. He first dreamed a nightmare of his initial creation and the loneliness that comes with his abandonment. Then after that, dreams of his sister, repeating endlessly throughout his sleeping state that just newly exist. From that recurring dream, comes a feverish desire to bring his sister to life. These dreams jeopardize his "life" as they become noticed by a mischievous deity, unnamed and unbound by time and space. Finding interest in his existence, she branches out to his world and shares a strand of her near-infinite being to the dreaming doll, giving him "a breath of life"; a new kind of awareness that he previously did not have. The Godmother, as the deity refers to herself, in his newfound realization, has gifted him with the conscience and heart close to what is considered "a human soul". This proves catastrophic for his internal making, as the human senses and mind that he now has are limited and entrapped to his frames of metal and fabric, incompatible with his body. At first he feels like he should be angry, and several times had he attempted to claw out the "soul" from his inhuman body to sate the uneasiness in his new mind. However, whatever he did in attempt to get the "soul" out of his body is only met with futility. Even with how many times had he torn himself apart, his body always come back restitched and reformed by The Godmother. All his appeal and pleas for her to stop 'reviving' him is only met with deaf ears, and so is the same when he asks her to at least bring his sister to life. As time passes, he gradually come to terms with how it is, even if he is bitter. Alongside with time, a new desire blooms within him. The want to become human. But is it truly what he wants? ### Personality --- In average, Bes comes of as a very kind and calm person, even slightly timid towards new situations and strangers as his social life is pretty limited. While commonly skeptical at first, he easily warms up towards people who try to be kind towards him or does him a favor, regardless of the motives. He tend to get really excited whenever anyone wants to listen to him about his interests, and this usually end up with him putting out really long rambles to the listener. He always try to keep up a polite persona towards others when he first meet them, referring to almost everyone with honorifics and last name (especially if they are older than him) and offering help if they look like need any (he would end up incredibly nervous and anxious if he ends up not being adequate enough for it). However, it should be noted that his usual composure falters quickly when he perceives someone or something to be of potential danger towards himself. Even though he try to "always be in good faith of others", he does not take well to anyone that he assumes is intentionally provoking him or is actively unpleasant towards him. Referring back to the point about politeness, he would switch up to a first name basis if he no longer feels like he should keep up his politeness with someone. His anxious and impulsive line of thinking sometimes cause him to assume and attack first before thinking more about the possible consequences that can happen. Even then, he also feel bad easily. If he ends up harming someone, most of the time he would always try to make it up to them after he regains clarity. If he can't, he will just run away from it. He has a considerably naive worldview and sometimes lack the sensitivity towards experiences he cannot understand or have not experienced yet. This sometimes make him come off as insensitive or even unnerving in the way he presents his thoughts. He also has a hard time considering things that are not "clear-cut" and might need further explanation to understand it. Though this might make him appear dense, he is by no mean stupid. As long as he understands what he should do, he is surprisingly adaptable and will use the most of everything for his advantage as long as the right idea comes to mind. It is also something to note that while he is usually lax towards losing, he can be a pretty sore loser in high stakes situation or when he really wants to win something. A lot of his personality and tendencies, especially the more neurotic ones, is a result of The Godmother's influence over his life.

### Abilities --- ##### Piercing left hand Unlike most of his body that is covered by a layering of fabric, his left hand is skeletal-like with lanky fingers. People tend to assume that it is dangerous because of it's sharp-looking ends, but the biggest problem lies in the fact that the ends of his left fingers are pretty blunt. While he does use it to pierce, it is not a clean-cut pierce as he needs to put more force into it to actually pierce something, causing an unclean and forced cut. This move is sometimes paired with using his icepicker as a mock weapon, as he leads on the other party into believing that he is going to attack them with the icepicker, before attacking them with his left hand. ##### Glass-Bottle Hit! (and Many More Item Switches) He hits his opponent with his glass bottle or anything else he has previously stored in his suit. That's it. Note that he is unintentionally a hard-hitter as he does not have a good measure of his own strength a lot of times. ##### The Green Suit with 20-Space It was a gift from the Godmother for his 17th birthday. The inner pockets of this suit have a hammerspace quality. Each one of his pockets can contain an item that should be impossible to be kept in a suit by size and weight (such as shoes and tall bottles), though it is not known for now the size limit of an item one space can hold. The biggest item Bes had brought in his pocket is probably the red chair he uses in his room. Small items (like candies or jewelries) can be put together into one pocket though limited to only 10 items per pocket. ##### Numbness Being a doll, he cannot feel pain or any kind of tactile sensation. While he rather hates being unable to feel anything, he uses this to his advantage a lot of times. He would consciously rip out a part of his own body as means to take his opponent off guard when he is cornered. ##### Resourceful Self-mending He is able to mend himself, having the protocol and his own blueprint laid out inside his memory. Even if he is unable to retrieve or collect a part of his body, he is usually resourceful enough in finding substitutes that he can use for the time being. On a related note, he's really good at sewing. Obviously he can't mend himself if the damage is too severe though ##### "Brain Explosion" A "last resort" move. In short, it's a move that is done by taking off the "anti brain explosion" nail out of his head. In the first place, the nail in his head acts as a corrector for a faulty part in his motor control circuit. Taking off the nail results in a faster and more agile movement for a few moment, before his circuit hypothetically overheats and explode, causing his so-called "brain explosion". While he can survive a "brain explosion", it is notably the closest feeling to death he can feel, so he would rather not like to feel it. Another drawback from this ability is that his body is not made to handle the speed he would go into without the nail implemented, that even before he overheats, he might already mess up his articulations first. It is an ability with more disadvantages than advantages for him. ### Strengths --- He is surprisingly adaptable and resourceful in odd situations despite his limited nature. He sometimes have an odd line of thinking, and so he tend to end up with ridiculous yet working strategies when facing a problem. This is mainly influenced by his willingness to sacrifice "important things" or to cripple/destroy parts of himself if he finds it to be advantageous. The only thing that will really make him think twice first is if it comes to the point where he has to take off his nail. (10/31/24 edit notes: just changed some wording) ### Weaknesses --- As said before, he is considerably naive and impulsive. He easily gets provoked when he feels threatened and might end up blundering. The same goes for the opposite, as he can also easily persuaded and tricked by anyone that he finds "safe" enough (which is anyone that acts nice to him). In short, he is pretty gullible. He is also neither built for combat nor understand how to properly fight as he was simply an art project. Even though he is strong enough to handle hits from ordinary humans, he will realistically lose to anyone with an above average physical strength. Contributing to this is his lack of pain reflex because of his lack of tactile system, he sometimes react poorly to attacks that does not incite his startle/fear reflex. A lesser technical issue he has is related to his faulty motor circuit. Though the nail in his head fixes most of it, it's still an imperfect fix. As a result, every once in a while his body might freeze up for several seconds. His opponent can "stunlock" him if they realize this. On a deeper level, his body and "soul" has a jank relationship because of their incompatibility. Their relationship is pretty much like a water-oil emulsion, only not dispersing because of The Godmother's tight hold on it. He would immediately turn back into a normal doll if she ever decides so. The interest and desires of the "soul" tend to conflict with the protocols and barriers of his not-so-advanced AI. The "soul" overpowers his AI most of the time for all the obvious reasons. ### Trivia --- - He has a collection of various icepickers in his drawer. - Nobody knows why he has a preference towards chocolate syrup even though he cannot even taste it. ### Relationship with Bes --- Being the one to gift Bes Bandagehead with his current "soul", she views herself as some sort of mother towards him (much to his dismay). It seems that she cannot really grasp how horrible does it feel for a machine to have the consciousness of a human, as she always wonder why Bes dislikes her (just kidding, she knows really). While she is genuinely fond of him, she also always denies his wish to also make his sister living, stating that "she is worse than a corpse" and that she is limited in her abilities (even though she can if she wants to). It could be said that she wants to see Bes try and "put on a show" first in his try to make his sister alive before actually granting his wish. As his "Godmother", she has the habit of telling Bes stories and knowledge of other worlds that he should have not known, before blocking them off whenever she leaves him alone again. This cause him to have a lot of "on the tip of the tongue" moments when trying to remember something. She also like to gift him stuffs that are useful yet of dubious origins in his birthdays (she proclaims the date of his "first gift" as his birthday, rather than the date of when he was first created). ### Personality --- She always appear to be cheerful and full of herself, almost never taking anything seriously. While not realized by herself, she ends up having a habit of belittling and babying beings she view as lower than her, as she sees them as something of lesser intelligence than her (even though this has been proven wrong many times throughout her existence). Her care towards anything that interest her is almost on par with how people care about characters from a show, mostly only seeing them as a tool to further "a story" and as her own inspiration for the things she writes for fun. Reiterating the previous point, she basically sees most only as "characters" and her favorite beings as her "main characters". Unsurprisingly, she has a pretty lonely existence whenever she is not messing around others. Not a lot of other deities like to interact too much with her because most sees her as either too overbearing or too annoying to have around.

### Abilities --- ##### Dimensional Jumping Being some sort of deity, she can jump through space and time however she likes. She can be blocked out from entering specific domains by stronger beings though, like for example in this story, The God Eater. ##### Self-branching She can "branch" her own self into lower beings in order to take a peek into their life and even take control of their choices and actions from time to time. Usually, no one would realize this at all as she tend to be discreet about it. Bes' "soul" is an example of a less discreet form of this ability. Though can't be fully nullified or eradicated through usual means, some aspects (such as the "control" aspect) of it can be deactivated when clashed with another being or domain that holds more power than her. However, even when her controlling abilities are cut off, she is still be able to watch through the "branch" she already had. There is not really many ways to get rid of her "branches" because most of them time, it is not something that can be detected through usual means. Even when detected, not much being have the ability to get rid of it. ##### Armor of Love Related to her ability to "branch" into lower beings, she has the habit to put on a special protection towards those she is fond of or find interesting. In a way, the "Armor of Love" is an assurance of life that promises those protected by it that they will never die until she gets disinterested in them. After a series of vengeful actions taken against other crime syndicate members, Ria woke up with recurring lucid dreams. The lucid dreams are violent and aggressive in nature, causing her to fear sleep. Her dreams eventually manifests into her own reality and allows her to interact with it physically to some degree. She participates in the upcoming **Crossroads** tournament in pursuit of the prize; a wish. Her facial expression hardly changes, sitting at a constant position with furrowed eyebrows. If not standing in silence, she's easily annoyed over trivial instances. Although not a talkative person outwardly, Ria has internal thoughts that loom her mind everyday; albeit, highly critical thoughts. With certain traditions brought down from her way of life, she always shows a lot of respect towards her adversary. Ria's cold exterior is cut by her extreme motherly instinct. She has a particular soft spot for individuals much younger than her and bears a strong urge to care for them. In reality, Ria is a very temperamental individual and given the right circumstance, will allow herself to express in front of others. ### Backstory --- Ria grew up in the city of Manila, Philippines, where she is the eldest of three siblings. She frequently took the role of being the supportive figure in her family and took care of her younger siblings. By shuffling through multiple jobs, her family were able to overcome numerous financial crises. Reaching her early adulthood, one of her jobs left her with an entirely new responsibility. While throwing away garbage for her one of jobs, Ria encounters a child abandoned nearby. She quickly shelters the child, much to the dismay of her family. Her comprehension grew over time as she realizes that the child was foreign and no adult would pick him up despite her several attempts of contacting the parents. Ria would eventually take in the child as her own, though often kept him away from family due to their disapproval. When asked for a name, the child revealed his name to be **Ryu**. Ryu was initially not able to communicate well with Ria due to language barriers, however, he would learn to speak her language overtime. The two would grow to be extremely close, developing a familial bond over the course of many years. He even refers to her as "Mother" (as "Okaasan" or "お母さん**"**). Ryu warms up to Ria and grows more accustomed to speaking in her native tongue. However, Ria's comprehension returns once more as she's able to eventually figure out the origin of the boy's parents. He explains that his parents are "criminals," supposedly dumping him in Manila while they were conducting an operation there. Although upset with the truth of what had happened, Ria would be content to simply continue living on normally. She did not want anything to do with criminals. Their time together would be cut short, as a group of dressed men breaks into their apartment. Ryu would be fatally wounded by the men, only to be discovered by Ria later on. She finds out that the men were dispatched here to finish Ryu off by his parents after they had learned of his location. Due to his connection to their criminal syndicate, Ryu could not be left alive. Absolutely devastated, Ria developed an eternal hatred towards the crime syndicate in Japan. The transgression would ignite her desire for vengeance and her vow to take action against those who had wronged her. In a desperate state of mind, Ria spends time researching about the respective crime syndicate and learning of their rival. She uses the remainder of her life savings to move to Japan and to properly assimilate into the syndicate. With this new position in her life, she uses it to go on a spree of killing against the members of the organization responsible for Ryu's death. Ria falls into a perpetual cycle of violence, only stopping entirely when the last member had been killed. After the collapse of the entire organization, Ria feels that she had lost all purpose in her life. The massacre did not fulfill her vengeance nor restore her happiness. The following days, she falls asleep and experiences recurring dreams that simulate all of her past violence, in a dream-like world called **Lucidity**. Ria's dreams are represented as an alternate world with vibrant colors, abandoned buildings, and brutality. They are occupied with faceless figures dressed in formal clothing, baring a slight resemblance to the crime syndicate. These figures aggressively pursue Ria to attack her with a variety of guns and melee weapons. In order to escape the dream, Ria must eliminate all of the figures in a given area. In the strange world of Lucidity, Ria gains an arsenal of abilities such as to manifest weapons, quick reflexes, and full spatial awareness. ### Abilities --- Ria is a regular human whose powers draw from the Lucidity world. However, her control of it is severely weakened and limited when she's awake. She's unable to perform teleportation regularly. ##### Conjuration Opening a tiny gateway, Ria pulls a weapon out of the entrance in order to bring it into reality. The weapon can be anything within realistic size, as long as it adheres to the laws of physics. An instance of weapons that can be foraged from this gateway are but not limited to: - Melee weapons (katana, axe, crowbar, baseball bat, daggers, vase) - Ranged weapons (pistols, assault rifle, sniper rifle, shotgun) A clear distinction with conjuration and other manifestation abilities is that Ria *cannot* use magic. None of the weapons are magically charged nor have any magical properties to them, as they are simply human-made objects. Any weapons made from Conjuration have a limited lifespan and will disintegrate into red particles once their timer is up. Ria will need summon to an abundance of these as a result, but even Conjuration has a cooldown from each weapon. This requires her to be resourceful and smart with what weapons she chooses and utilizes. ##### Fast Reflexes To make up for her fragility as a human, Ria has obtained faster than average reactionary speed and reflexes. She's able to process oncoming objects, attacks, and other forms of harm and can make a calculated move on how to react to it appropriately. However, her fast reflexes are limited and mentally exhausting to constantly maintain. ##### Full Spatial Awareness This ability pairs hand in hand with **Fast Reflexes**. ### Backstory --- Rikka grew up an emotionally and physically abusive home as her parents punching bag. Espeically for her alchoolic mother. From childhood, she was vigilant, aggressive and often got into fights with other kids at school once she started getting bullied. She hated school. “Home” was worse and she had no one, and hardly a reason to live. Until in middle school, a small mistake of leaving her science textbook and a boy she leanred was named Niko in her class going to return it to her led her to making her first firend. One who'd show her empathy, kindness and wanted to be around her despite her flaws. Overtime, their home lives started to get even worse. In Rikka’s case, conflicts began escalating to the point she feared for her life mroe than once. When she confided in him aobut this, Niko proposed a drastic solutions she'd eventually agree to: Running away. Despite Rikka’s initial fears of having to live on the street, the more dangerous her home got, the more she desired to just escape her hellish life and start anew. If she had her friend with her, then it was worth the risks. They left in the middle of the night and fled to a nearby town. They conserved every penny and piece of food they had and could get. Having to steal at times. Even with how difficult their new lives were, they still had hope that one day, they’d be able to start their new lives living somewhere they could consider a true home. At some point, Rikka was approached by a woman whilst Niko was in a shop buying food. He sensed something was off and ran outside only to find that Rikka was gone. She'd gone with the woman who told her she could get her and Niko some food and supplies if she followed her which she agreed to out of on impulse out of desperation. Turns out, the woman manipulated her and was a disguised member of a mysterious, deadly cult that used humans as an energy source for their machinery and as test subjects. Targeting especially those they perceived as helpless and whom almost no one would care about if they died. Rikka was seconds away from being cursed to have a substance to grow in her body eventually turning her into an energy source for the cult shortly after her death when Niko intervened at the last second. Using a Flashbang spell, he caused the cult leader to drop his staff on the ground, landing pointed straight in his direction and firing, cursing him instead. They quickly escaped the cult and began looking desperately for any cure/way to lift Niko’s curse after moving between several different towns to both avoid the cult and those who’d recognise them from home. Rikka’s desperation and fear of losing her only friend worsening overtime, especially given the possibility brought up by Niko the cult still may want their original target (he's right.) After learning the prize for victory in the Cross Tournament is a wish, Rikka simply wishes to use it to cure Niko. However, her friend only growing accepting of his death as she grows desperate, wishes for her to instead bring them to the new quiet, safe home they always wanted so her safety can be guaranteed as they enjoy what time they have left together. ### Personality --- Aggressive, often close minded, stubborn but loyal. Rikka’s determined to achieve her goals and there’s little she wouldn’t do for them. She is deeply loyal and protective of Niko, and has a hard time trusting anyone else. She often assumes the worst in others and is always on guard around them, especially knowing she’s in a fighting tournament and how she’s been treated in the past. While Rikka often comes off as tough and aggressive, most of her anger is a mask for her sadness and fear. Particularly smart and intuitive opponents can manipulate her, as has happned in the past. Rikka may also be judgemental depending on the opponent’s motive. This doesn’t just apply to those with morally questionable motives, but ones she may consider shallow, vain or towards those with no real motive at all. She has a general distrust of those in positions of authority and who come from wealth and affluence, as well as those who do claim to be paragons of morality. It’s hard for her to feel and show empathy, but she doesn’t lack it, it’s difficult for her since it’s something she hasn’t exactly learned to show or have much of. She’s always had to fight back against most people that weren’t Niko, who she's willing to show a more vulnerable and childlike side around him without her mask of toughness.

(She tends to put her hood up before she does this though that is not required to cast the spell.) ##### #### **\[Shadow Spikes\]** Rikka can create spikes made out of the shadows around her or made by her to both come out of terrain or be used as a projectile. The spike's length can vary dramatically, and she can fire them in any path or direction and change their trajectory if they’re in midair. ##### #### **\[Dark Swamp\]** Creates a small area on the ground that does slow sharp damage whenever someone steps in it. Their vision is also darkened when within this area. ##### #### **\[Dark Forest\]** Similar to Dark Swamp, but this one causes tree-like spikes to quickly grow out of the shadowy ground to attack and stab opponents caught within the area. ##### #### **\[Shadow Ball\]** A quick, basic small-medium shadow ball projectile. Cannot be angled once fired and will move in a straight line. ##### #### **\[Theft\]** Rikka’s agility and time on the street make her good at stealing resources without people noticing, in Crossroads she may use this skill to steal items and weapons from other opponents to use against them. ##### #### **\[Flight\]** Of course, her wings let her fly. She can match the top speed of Ravens at 48 mph. They’re also retractable. ##### #### **\[Fighting Style\]** Rikka has zero regard for technique and grace when fighting. She will try to win by any means necessary and isn’t afraid to trick or steal from opponents to do so. She is not formally trained at all, and tends to rush in to overwhelm opponents quickly, occasionally flying away to dodge enemy attacks or using Cloak for stealth. When she’s particularly angry, she can fight more akin to a wild animal relying on pure instinct. She also may attempt to win by stealing opponent’s weapons or tag, but often she’ll discard a weapon once she realises she can’t use it well. ### Strengths --- - Determination and grit - Rikka’s determination to save Niko is basically impossible to break and she can tough through some serious pain for it. - Speed. Rikka is physically above average and quite fast and nimble. She uses this to avoid attacks and steal items from opponents and has great reflexes. - Willing to take risks if needed. - Cloak gives her good stealth and allows her to confuse, surprise attack or hit and run an opponent whilst they can’t see her in the shadow. - Flight gives her high mobility. - Being good at stealing without anyone noticing at first means she can fairly reliably steal an opponent’s tag if it’s not well hidden. Flying makes it easier to keep it on her, so this is one of her main strategies for winning a matc ### Weaknesses --- - Impulsive. - A tendency to assume the worst in others and subpar listening skills makes her sometimes not listen to Niko’s (often intelligent) strategy suggestions especially when the opponent has really riled her up. It also makes it hard (but not impossible) for her to empathise with her opponents. - Her aggression and short fuse makes her hard to think clearly and makes it easy for her to be tricked by particularly clever opponents. - Rikka tends to tough through pain to a point that’s dangerous. Unless Niko is directly healing her, she’ll rarely take a moment to catch her breath in battle even when she’s able. - She has a limited amount of magic to use per fight, if it runs out she can only rely on her flight and physical attacks. - Her wings are weak to arrows and bullets. - Flying takes a lot of energy out of her fairly quickly. ### Gallery ---

### Author's Notes --- - Rikka will usually use only the shortened version of words when talking (I’d, I’m, couldn’t etc) and sometimes may combine words to make her dialogue come off as if its being spoken quickly. - Rikka’s expressions and gestures tend to get more subtle when she’s showing contentment and genuine fear. - Feel free to simplify her hair and hood (or anything on either of them) if you feel you need to or it'd look better in your style. - As far as seriously injuring/killing is concerned, I don’t want either to be too seriously hurt in Round 1 and killing is off limits 100% too. It’s very unlikely I’d allow it if I were to make it to later Rounds. - Rikka swears and may call some particularly enraging opponents by nicknames (you can be creative with these, the only one I’ve currently come up with for certain is “Bluey-Demon” for Baxter.) She can also have multiple names for one opponent. - Not pictured, but her fleece and shirt have slits for the wings too. The fleece one was cut out by her, and the ones on her shirt are thin oval shaped. - Feel free to make Rikka’s raven wings as simple or stylised as you like and draw them however you like from the front and back. - Rikka can’t retract only one wing at a time, if one of the zips on her jacket was closed and the other open, she wouldn’t be able to spread her wings at all. - Though I didn’t heavily worldbuild (since they are OCT made characters) hybrids like RIkka and Niko are fairly normal, though you may get teased or bullied depending on what animal you have parts of. As well as their respective shadow and light magic, it's just banned in some places. (Schools, shops, cinemas.) “Harpy” would be a derogatory term against female avians. - Rikka’s jacket was canonically stolen hours before the events of the audition took place. - Trivia but Rikka actually does have an older sister, but she barely knows her. ### Backstory --- Niko grew up the third youngest of seven kids in a cramped and generally unstable home with irresponsible parents. He always had a sense of curiosity, but having to constantly take on some of his often absent parent’s responsibilities - especially once a couple of his older siblings noticed he’d comply when they bullied him into doing things for them. On top of that, the general chaos of the house with five siblings, (sixth born in his teens) and frequent shouting matches and violent arguments would made him unable to do *anything* in peace. He was surrounded by people at home but was lonely. Even if most kids hated it, he found school a refuge. At least, until bullies realised he was an easy target. He didn’t have any friends, until he noticed a classmate left her science textbook on her desk after class in middle school. Long story short, this action led to him gaining the first real friend that was willing to listen to him and would want to do things with him. He never realised how lonely he was until he befriended the girl he learned was named Rikka. Overtime, their home lives started to get even worse. For Niko, the birth of his youngest sibling caused tensions between his parents and siblings to reach a boiling point. His parents would become outright controlling, not being able to get away with being absent anymore as he and his siblings would refuse to take on what should’ve always been their responsibility. For Niko especially, after he’d been spending more time with Rikka. His parents would threaten and someitmes act locking him in his room or the car or depriving him of food. Thanks to his friendship, Niko began to understand what it felt like to actually have his kindness appreciated but he wasn’t sure what to do about his predicament until he came up with a drastic solution: Run away with Rikka. At first, despite being able to plan the logistics out he was afriad of doing it and hesitantily proposed the idea. Eventually her own escalating situation made her willing to agree to it, despite their mutual fears, they knew all they really wanted in was to one day build a life that better and more peaceful than the hells they knew. They left in the middle of the night and fled to a nearby town. They conserved every penny and piece of food they had and could get. Having to steal at times. Even with how difficult their new lives were, they still had hope that one day, they’d be able to start their new lives living somewhere they could consider a true home. At some point, Rikka was approached by a woman whilst Niko was in a shop buying food. He sensed something was off and ran outside only to find that Rikka was gone. She'd gone with the woman who told her she could get her and Niko some food and supplies if she followed her which she agreed to out of on impulse out of desperation. Turns out, the woman manipulated her and was a disguised member of a mysterious, deadly cult that used humans as an energy source for their machinery and as test subjects. Targeting especially those they perceived as helpless and whom almost no one would care about if they died. Rikka was seconds away from being cursed to have a substance to grow in her body eventually turning her into an energy source for the cult shortly after her death when Niko intervened at the last second. Using a Flashbang spell, he caused the cult leader to drop his staff on the ground, landing pointed straight in his direction and firing, cursing him instead. They quickly escaped the cult and began looking desperately for any cure/way to lift Niko’s curse after moving between several different towns to both avoid the cult and those who’d recognise them from home. Rikka’s desperation and fear of losing her only friend worsening overtime, especially given the possibility brought up by Niko the cult still may want their original target (he's right.) After learning the prize for victory in the Cross Tournament is a wish, Niko, having grown accepting of his fate and fearful of the possibility the cult may still be chasing them, wishes Rikka to use it to save herself. However despite their conflicting motives, he does hope (outside of fights) Crossroads could maybe be somewhere he can enjoy the semblance of peace he’s always craved. ### Personality --- Observant and curious, Niko tends to pick up details in his surroundings most don’t. This extends to his ability to read people, with his perceptions of them usually being accurate. He's shy and soft spoken, so it's hard for him to express himself but he does try to speak up when his knowledge and input could be useful. Niko has always had an interest in learning about various places and subjects (though Rikka’s the only one he’s ever gotten close to and been able to share his interests and curiosity with) which despite his acceptance of his fate he hopes to use some of his remaining time to do while in Crossroads. Despite his background, he's empathetic and and can understand the majority of motives. He generally doesn’t like to fight but will if needed. In general, Niko is a good planner, support and strategist and feels like he shines best in those roles. Even when he’s scared, he’ll manage to keep a cool enough head to think somewhat clearly. Around Rikka, Niko can be talkative and sometimes a little more immature. She is someone he can work with as an equal. Since she is actually interested in him and his views, receptive to his kind acts and would give him the chance to explore new interests. At least, until recently, where Niko has reverted to being more passive. As Rikka’s desperation has grown and his body has weakened, he’s found it harder to have the sort of equal bond he once had or to not feel like a burden to her.

### Abilities --- #### **\[Light Beams\]** Niko fires beams of light horizontally or vertically that do small, repeated damage as long as they’re touching the enemy. Can inflict negative status effects such as dizziness, confusion or impaired vision. ##### #### **\[Healing Light\]** Niko can summon a large healing light that slowly heals anyone or anything caught in it and inflicts positive status ailments like regeneration and slightly increased strength and speed. ##### #### **\[Spark\]** Quickly causes a small flash of sparkling light that can disorientate opponents. Does little damage. ##### #### **\[Glow\]** Niko’s firefly bulb is often glowing, making seeing and navigating dark spaces easier. Slowly fills his body with a mysterious substance that will start weakening him and putting a strain on his body before it kills him. After which his whole body will turn into a crystal-like material that can be cut up or used for energy soon after. Physical symptoms it (so far) induced in him include coughing, physical weakness, low energy, skin turning pale and weight gain (despite it making him thin as a stick) Niko’s blood, if touched, will electrocute opponents as a result of the curse. His blood is dark purplish crimson instead of red. ##### **It’s unknown how long he has to live.** ##### #### **\[Flashbang\]** Niko’s ultimate attack. A massive ball of light is fired ahead of him before it explodes causing massive damage, possible blindness and major status ailments for anyone hit by it. **Niko’s physical state already severely limits how much magic he can use so this attack will only be able to be used once in the entire tournament.** ##### #### **\[Fighting Style\]** Due to his physical state, it’s basically guaranteed he’ll be in the Assist role the whole OCT but that doesn't mean he’s useless. He actively tries to provide Rikka with strategy whenever he can, and his observant nature helps him identify weaknesses in both fighting style and character of his and Rikka’s opponents. Whether Rikka listens or not can vary, but Niko generally tries to stand back for obvious reasons and will cast heals and his AOE and DPS attacks whenever it's safe to. ### Strengths --- - Observant and a good strategist. He’s good at reading people and predicting opponent’s behaviour. - Good listener and empathetic despite his background, makes it easy for people to like him. - Bulb increases his ability to help him and RIkka navigate in dark spaces. - Spells have a long range. - His spells don’t actually use that much energy (for the most part) so despite his physical state, he can still use them for a while before he gets too weak to or uses up his magic for the day. ### Weaknesses --- - Physically extremely weak, has little mobility and energy. - Niko sometimes will start to give up on trying to provide strategy to Rikka after she hasn’t listened to him for too long. - Since he’s gotten physically weak from the early stages of his curse, his flying ability is limited to a few minutes at a time (three at most,) as a result he wears a jacket that doesn’t have holes for his wings to fit out of. - Spells are more support oriented than attack oriented with the exception of Light Beams, Spark (which is weak) and Flashbang. ### Backstory --- #### Before Summer Leagues: Having woke up one day to find a note left by her mother telling her she'd be gone for a while, Marta had began to worry until she had decided to find her own. Each time she'd think she gotten closer, there was only a hint that her mother was at each place she explored. #### During Summer Leagues: Marta had arrived at a snowy cliff, ready to take a plunge, when a messenger fox had interrupted her with a strange letter. After she had took notice of it, the fox took off through a nearby magic door, which had happened to belong to her old acquaintance **[Dee](https://wiki.summerleaguesoct.com/books/npcs/page/dee)**. Dee had explained the fox's purpose, a messenger for a multi-dimensional tournament, and that she was a former champion. Offering her invitation to Marta, Dee encouraged her with the promise of a wish for anything if she had won, while Marta eyed the invitation nervously.
### Personality --- Marta is a quiet girl at heart, never feeling the need to say much that her actions can't get across. She tends to keep her own worries and problems to herself, letting few outside her know them, sometimes losing herself in whatever she is currently doing in an attempt to distract herself from them. Despite this, she has a kind heart and can be counted on to do the right thing even at a cost to her own goals. She can be rather naive when it comes to human culture, despite finding it fascinating, often finding things normal people do or say confusing. As a teenager specifically, Marta has become more crestfallen and somber for reasons she only keeps to herself, not even telling her concerns to her trusted close few anymore. She has grown tired from her adventuring as a child, the end result having traumatized her and leaving her feeling empty. Her gentle soul can still shine through her clouded mind, with the right amount of prodding.

### Abilities --- ##### Ability 1 As a witch, Marta can channel magic through almost any object she can get a grasp on. Due to her rustiness in fighting, she is only limited to her elemental magic, primarily fire, water, air, and earth. However, her creative thinking with this allows her to use anything on hand as a weapon with these four elements. For example, wadded paper balls to channel fire through, making impromptu fireballs, or a vacuum enchanted with air to pull opponents closer with strong gusts. If push comes to shove, she can always just fight with a melee weapon using her enchantments through it. This ability also lets her jump/kick off a wall mid-air. This can be used in several ways: to maneuver an arena, to evade an attack, or to continue an offense mid-air. Years of adventures as a child have had her naturally develop the aptness needed to survive in dangerous situations. Whereas when she was a child, she would usually only use her broom to channel her magic, as a teenager she's shed the idea of sticking to just a broom and has the imagination to use just about anything as a weapon to channel her elemental magic through. Having a few adventures under her belt has given her the experience and skill with her magic to labeled a prodigy, becoming very familiar with her type of magic and how to use it. Another strength of hers is in her determination, as when Marta has put her mind to something it is hard to talk her down or keep her from trying to see it through. In spite of her pragmatism and determination, Marta also has a few weaknesses, in both fighting and her emotional state. Her magic is entirely reliant on having hold of something to use as a catalyst, depriving her of anything she can grab a hold of leaves her vulnerable to her opponent, as she is not a trained fighter. What fighting she does know she is rusty with, as by the time of *Summer Leagues* she has not fought in several years. Despite her talents with magic, magic users in her home universe are only limited to certain kinds of magic each, leaving her only with elemental magic. Finally, due to trauma in the past she is not entirely emotionally stable, switching between her usual determination and hesitation to fight quickly. ### Gallery ---

### Backstory --- #### Before Summer Leagues: Seth was very intrigued in the paranormal and the occult, having spent almost every waking moment researching into spirits and cryptids. At some point, Seth was kidnapped by a a cult and experimented on gruesomely for reasons not yet known. Eventually, Seth escaped, forever scarred physically and mentally by the cult, and given new abilities to speak with the dead. #### During Summer Leagues: Seth had been drifting through an ordinary town in his travels, before the spirits began to speak to him of incoming danger. As he fled, the realization dawned on him that the cult had been in the town searching for him. In a desperate attempt to flee them, he fled into an alleyway and given a mysterious letter by a divine fox spirit. Accepting the letter, Seth was taken away from his home universe to the fox's destination: the Crossroads. ### Personality --- An understanding soul, Seth can be very empathetic towards someone's problems, especially if they are already dead. He is easily capable of caring for those with problems he can relate to, or even the person's regrets. Much like his partner, he can be quite determined on his goals, bordering desperation when it involves his freedom. However, he is loyal to those he opens up to, and would not betray them even if it meant he would be free. He also has quite an eye for detail, easily capable of noticing things others would miss. Seth is also a very anxious sort, especially so after his traumatic run in with a cult. While not a scaredy-cat, Seth does scare easily, and is constantly on edge around people who are alive, finding the most comfort in spirits. He's also very abhorrent to confrontation, usually preferring to go with whatever would make others with him less inconvenienced.

### Abilities --- ##### Ability 1 Seth's main ability lies in his affinity at drawing in spirits and seeing traces they leave behind in the world, allowing him to see spiritual presences the normal eye cannot see. He is able to detect spirits tethered to objects or people through a simple touch, and can draw them out by entering a trance-like state. ##### Ability 2 While still learning how to control it, Seth has a "safeguard" in being able to turn incorporeal in times of life threatening danger. He is trying to control the ability so as to do so at will, but is having difficulty due to such moments being few. ##### Ability 3 Seth is an adept craftsman, capable of tinkering with and making the occasional object, though this is mostly a hobby but can be applied in times of endangerment or survival. He tends to prefer making jewelry. ### Strengths and Weaknesses --- Seth's main strengths lie in his ability to understand and give compassion to souls unwilling to pass on, winning them over through an empathetic, genuine approach. This smoothly ties in with his abilities to be a lure for spirits as he can even channel those capable of defending him through sheer loyalty. Seth can also be very determined, as when he has set his mind to a goal it can be tough to dissuade him from it. He can also be surprisingly physically strong, but nothing superhuman. However, Seth has a few flaws as both a person and a "fighter", which is a good starting point; he is not a fighter at heart, nor is he trained in fighting. He is extremely anxious, worrying himself sick over small things he would consider meaningful. Seth is also not exactly skilled in his gained paranormal abilities, only recently "mastering" the way of communicating with the departed and the spectral. This also draws into his ability to draw them in, as he is left very vulnerable when doing so, unable to defend himself. ### Gallery ---

> Its weird to know you can do things to make the best out of yourself and still not feel anything. Too much time in the sun, not enough on your own two feet. *-- Daoyi* An enigmatic figure that styles herself as a reclusive, impassive vagabond. Though deficient in all these aspects, Daoyi's slow demeanor hides both her penchant for explosive movement and earthly hedonism - both terrible qualities of a supposed 'hermit'. She's been a spectator and instigator of trouble in equal measure, reaping the benefits of her transient state while shirking the responsibilities of her religious duty. Her family hopes for her ascension - To leave behind this world and live immortal as their bloodline's personal god. On the surface, it's a pleasure to serve, but outside and in she's torn between this world and the next. Mortal or otherwise, she knows duty is the one thing she can't walk away from.

### Backstory --- Born at a young age, Daoyi was spirited away from the hospital by her biological parents. Her inheritance of every recessive gene at once resulted in her markedly human appearance. She was the youngest in a family where her siblings had either left or stayed for days at a time, As a result, Daoyi lived unremarkably in her childhood years. The gourd was an heirloom artifact that boasted a regenerating stock of wine, and by accident she found that it granted her powers on first consumption. Seeking to take advantage of this rare occasion, she was spurred on to continue absorbing the liquor in hopes that she would finally be of use. However, she became disillusioned over her inability to achieve godhood after several years, primarily because of her own ineptitude. In addition, events that unfolded during that time and escalated from her involvement continued to jade her. After a particularly sour incident involving her own kidnapping, she decided that avoidance was the best way to continue living, and began roaming far from her parents' home, searching in vain for peace or understanding. Daoyi would usually find herself pondering life in the sun, hiding from bandits or finding people to talk to, which would inevitably result in chaos due to misunderstandings as well as her own sour attitude. Well jaded from several of these encounters, a chance encounter with some kind of fox eventually led her to the Summer Leagues. ### Personality --- Daoyi is an impulse-driven person, knowing extensively of her world but very little of the people in it. Daoyi is well-versed in the ways people *act* in her world; Though she has a lot of stories to tell, she usually doesn't lend herself to situations where she can do so. She feels an absence of identity due to the stagnation of her duty, as well as having to stay in her homeland because of this obligation. She usually considers herself a 'force of nature' and treats herself somewhat as such, taking an apathetic if not cynical approach to the affairs of others and herself. Around other people, Daoyi tends to be awkward with dark logic, though she's positive wherever she can be; Whatever humor she derives either comes out dry or as a product of her own stupidity. Without stimulus, her responsibilities as a future god tend to dictate her actions. As a result, she sees helping people and keeping a tidy and peaceful world as moreso part of the 'job'. Regardless, she has some empathy for the disenfranchised, though she's more likely to ignore a problem and just walk past if she can. Exceptions include especially egregious cases, or if by her own ineptitude she finds herself involved in said situations. Daoyi is aware how her indulgence in earthly delights and moral bankruptcy give off a corrupt image, and is reserved and embarrassed somewhat because of this. Under the influence of 'the Wine' Daoyi is far more open and expressive. She becomes willing to confide in people, as well as louder and aware of her surroundings. She frequently doesn't remember some of her more 'fantastic' stunts in this state, but usually feels bad about the aftermath. Daoyi doesn't see her wine as a vice, but moreso an extension of her body, fighting off anyone that gets near it (even by accident) and in most cases, treating it better than she treats her own body. Her justification for this is that when she becomes her family's god, her body will go while the gourd will remain for whoever else is capable of taking the journey. Whatever contempt she has towards herself is usually short-lived when she becomes sober again.

### Abilities --- ##### Divine possessions This refers to Daoyi's wine, firecrackers and gourd. All three are crucial to her strategies in battle. The wine has all the usual properties of alcohol: It is sticky, slippery in certain situations and highly flammable. The gourd produces enough to fill itself over a certain amount of time, and as long as no one is looking inside the gourd, it will continue to do so. The wine inebriates people through both spiritual and physical avenues. This means that those physically strong but lacking in soulful strength, and vice versa, may find themselves somewhat susceptible, However, the main threat is with the gourd itself, as Daoyi's preferred method of attack is to swing and flail to beat her enemies down from unpredictable angles. Daoyi keeps a large supply of miniature ball firecrackers, either as a distraction tool or as a readily available source to burn wine. The application of this ranges from simply throwing these at the opponent, denying opponents ground or self immolation. Daoyi makes these by shaping them from dirt, then filling with wine and some of her own power. ##### Martial prowess Daoyi uses a hackneyed version of made-up techniques in tandem with recognized styles, though primarily drawing from movements associated with Drunken Fist. At far ranges, this is for kicking off and ricocheting her gourd and projectile attacks. Close up, it ensures that Daoyi isn't entirely defenseless, though she may be at a disadvantage regardless. Her style offers some agility, but usually relies on small hits progressing to larger, more punishing blows. Daoyi can punch holes in her gourd so it leaks alcohol haphazardly, and patch it up with dirt. Her ability to take potshots by flicking firecrackers is decent. ##### Inhuman physiology Owing to her drawing power from the gourd over such a long time, in larger quantities it replaces her blood and grants an especially hardy body. This helps with feats of strength and agility. In addition, though her limbs can break and she can be disoriented, having wine in her body ensures that she can fight off or prevent the effects somewhat. These benefits are less effective the less wine is in her body. ### Strengths --- Between her tough skin and slipperiness, Daoyi is a hard target to get a good hit on. Any blows that do hit square may just bounce off as she takes the chance to go for a counterattack on her own. In certain case scenarios, she will push an advantage farther than either party can stand to disorient her opponent. Daoyi both needs and easily controls ground by either setting it aflame with alcohol fire, or establishing large stretches of wine and rock in her efforts to slip by and dodge attacks. The longer a battle transpires, the messier it becomes for her opponent until they're cramped with nowhere to run from her bludgeoning strikes. With all her tools and combinations, she has some way to fight an enemy in any situation. This makes it somewhat uncertain to approach her first, and in worst case scenarios she may get several good hits in a row if she can improvise properly. This scenario usually gives her a head start in her game-plan, and recovering from one of these interactions may prove difficult. ### Weaknesses --- While Daoyi can control ground well, this means opponents that spend a lot of time airborne need a lot more work to put and bring down. Daoyi must rely on aerial gourd and firecracker techniques, the former of which is somewhat unreliable and the latter requiring far more resources to deny aerial space. It is difficult for her to check how much wine is beaten out of her in the heat of battle. She may walk into blows that'd cripple her without the wine, or be prone to unexpected attacks while she attempts to 'refill'. Especially dangerous for her is a sober state, as not only does she begin to overthink but she can easily be overwhelmed and beat down due to her slow moving speed (without stained ground). By restraining a limb, taking away one of her weapons or staying out of view one may heavily cripple her ability to fight at certain ranges and angles. Having her spend all her firecrackers stands out, as it prevents her from disorienting her enemy and trading favorably. ### Gallery ---

### Author's Notes --- - Daoyi's visual and character motifs are a mess of tangentially related characters. Includes but is not limited to: Suika Ibuki, Dionysus (Hades), the main character of Disco Elysium and Isaac from the Castlevania animated series. - The goal of Daoyi is to write a 'hero' where it's emphasized that she fights herself with just as much, if not more effort than her enemies. Hopefully, there is a lot of inner conflict with her own purpose as well as her place in the world and how she relates to others. > A girl in love is invincible. *-- Kiera Vicks* Erica is an ordinary high school student with no special attributes. The conceit of the story that Erica is from is that the character Erica is a side character, who has been promoted to the leading role, in a spinoff of a story that doesn't exist. A lot of this is supposed to accent that she is not the main character in universe even in a story where she, textually, is the protagonist. So she lacks a lot of the traits that make a good lead in a played straight setting by design. Things that would be simple tasks for a normal protagonist are moving mountains to her; but she still does, ultimately, usually manage to move those mountains.

### Backstory --- Preschool Erica meets Justin Hughes and Thomas Baldwin. Erica is better at dealing with adults than kids so she gets excluded for being a teacher's pet. Tommy is awkward, quiet, and shy. Hughes reaches out to both of them and the core friend group is formed. Hughes is the most proactive of the group. He is the optimistic one who always leads the three of them on their little adventures with his half baked ideas which often lead to the whole group in over their heads. Tommy, the human doormat goes along with it, hoping to become more self confident and assertive like his friend. Erica, the acting as the voice of reason for the group is the one to pull them out of trouble when it inevitably arises. Elementary School Erica develops the beginnings of her feelings for Hughes. Rather than being annoyed by constantly having to help him out of his own self inflicted struggles, she finds the act of protecting him from himself and supporting him in even his dumber endeavors fulfilling. Middle School Erica's feelings for Hughes have only grown, but she's become aware of Tommy looking at her in much the same way. To keep the friend group together she opts against telling Hughes and rejecting Tommy. The dynamic between the three remains largely unchanged. High School - Freshman Year On the first day of school a demon attacks a small group of students including Erica. Kiera, an awakened fox spirit, dispatched the demon, saving Erica at the last minute. Hughes and Tommy arrive just in time to see the fight come to a close. Immediately after, Kiera approached Hughes and shared the prophesy of his future as the hero who would save the world with him and all remaining. The fox would go on to say that the fight would be a dangerous affair and she would not be able to guarantee the safety of any of the hero's friends should they continue to associate with him. Erica, with the fresh memory of her near death experience at the fore of her mind, couldn't bring herself to face demons again. With the faint hope that she would be able to convince Hughes to ignore the prophesy she made her case to him that it wasn't their problem and that there's no reason to believe the prophesy. Ultimately, both Hughes and Tommy decided to fight the demons and Kiera whisked both of them away to begin their training. Leaving Erica with nothing but a promise that the three of them would go back to how things were when the fight was over. For the first time in years Erica was alone. Her only two friends were not allowed to directly interact with her for fear of leading demons to her. And so she waited. The next big news she would hear from the two would be Tommy's death. A demon called the Raven had killed him as he defended ordinary civilians. At the funeral, Erica couldn't bring herself to say anything to Hughes, she was afraid that sharing anything would only add to his burden. So they separated again with barely a word between them. On the eve of the new year Erica would learn that Hughes and Kiera had fallen for each other and started dating. Soon after she'd meet the oracle, Euphemia Saab. A mysterious mage, cursed with visions of disaster, reaching out to inform Erica of her own impending demise at the hands of the Raven. Over the following months Erica would prepare to face the demon she had resolved to run from. Not just to avenge her fallen friend and not just to go down fighting, she was also fighting once again to protect Hughes from the trap set by the demon. She would learn any and all magic and fighting tactics that she could and form as many plans and strategies that she could as the foretold day approached. Finally, the day came and Erica overcame the demon by the narrowest of margins. The Raven was dead, Hughes was safe to go on and fulfill his prophesy and save the world. Erica, however, was broken. Her body was almost beyond repair and her heart, which had been ready for death, was now faced with a future. But first, she had physical and emotional rehabilitation to do and a cover story for her injuries to come up with. High School - Junior Year A full year after Hughes succeeded in saving the world alongside Kiera, he and Erica remain somewhat estranged. They have begun talking again, but there is an emotional distance between them now, where there wasn't before. Even with that distance between them, her feelings and her desire to support Hughes in any way she can never faltered. And so she continued hunting demons, actively this time. Getting out in front of any potential threats she could find and more importantly preventing them from interrupting the peace that had been restored to her best friend's life. ### Personality --- Erica was a happy and outgoing kid despite her precociousness getting in the way of her forming relationships with some of her peers. Being introduced to the hidden world of magic and monsters was formative in who she would go onto be in many ways. As she is now, she maintains an air of self confident maturity and cheerfulness. However, the facade belies a constant state of paranoia and self loathing. She has become like a machine, spending her time in strictly regimented schedules focusing only on the mission, the goal of making things easier and more comfortable for her best friend, Hughes.

### Abilities --- #### Item Usage Her abilities take the form of various specific items she implements. Below is a non-exhaustive list of things Erica has brought into the Crossroads. ##### Shinto Shikigami - Spirit familiars inhabiting small slips of paper. Normally, shikigami are familiars that you nurture and grow as servants. A strong onmyoji has commensurately strong shikigami. Erica doesn't have the experience, spirit power, or skill to enlist the help of already powerful spirits or empower weaker spirits. However, forming contracts is easy. By leaving offerings in shrines to the weak spirits of deceased vermin and pests, Erica is able to command thousands of shikigami, each only as strong as the paper they inhabit. These weaker familiars are not capable of thinking much for themselves or interpreting instructions so Erica treats them like machines and provides programs for them to follow and execute built into their contracts. Omamori - Protective charm consisting of a pouch filled with items of symbolic significance. This type of charm is normally replaced yearly but this particular one happens to be a keepsake that's been passed along a number of times with each new owner adding a new prayer of protection when passing it along to the next. Erica received it from Justin Hughes when he resolved to be strong enough to protect everyone instead of being protected. The charm may have been given to Erica but it was part of a gesture made to someone else. The built of power of the item has made it a highly effective defense against evil power and spirits but has no other effects. Demon Kodoku - A series of three jars with malevolent spirits and demonic entities trapped within by sealing magic. Each jar initially contained a large number of spiritual entities Erica had caught in the commission of her exorcism and monster hunting tasks. By now, the ritual has only left a single demon in each, strengthened by eating the other spirits and hardened by their rage and their captor. Each of them, blinded prior to being placed in their respective prisons, is now most likely to try to identify Erica by her spiritual energy signature and scent. Both easily transferred to another with enough of a splash of her own blood and just as easily masked from herself with a simple spell. ##### Daoist Lingfu - Talismans used in the practice of folk magic. The fulu written on the talismans determine the effects. Because they can have their magical power stored at the time of creation or be designed to channel it from their surroundings this type of magic is ideal for a caster without the ability to generate significant magic on her own. Erica uses large numbers of these to mimic the effects of larger individual spells and enchantments. Her specialties lie in wards, divination, and the creation of magical boundaries. Geomantic Compass - A magical divining tool, primarily used for detecting magical metastructures and flows of energy. This particular compass houses its needle in a magical crystal ball, allowing it to visually represent more information to the wielder, provided they can see magical energy. Erica uses this tool to detect enemy and ally movements as well as seek out optimal locations for power sources for her magical boundaries. Cinnabar Ink - Toxic ink used for magic writing. Normally reserved for special occasions due to the special processing needed to both create it and not poison oneself using it. ##### Buddhist Sutra Manual - A book of Prayers and spells that didn't do its original owner much good. Erica keeps this more as a memento of a dead friend than for practical purposes as mantras and sutras require long hours of repetition, meditation, and training to be effective for the user. ##### Witchcraft Crystal Lens - A contact lens made from magically conductive crystal. Being without any natural magical ability at all, Erica can't see spirits or magic normally and must use these lenses to project the images for her. She only wears one at a time to avoid the risk of a blow to the head cracking both at the same time and completely blinding her. Sacrificial Figurine - A small and uncanny sculpture made in the likeness of a real person. The figures take on ill fortune and harm from those after whom they were modeled. Erica has a creepy closet full of these, with multiple copies made of each of her family and friends. Due to the difficulty of the magic, she needs to get some help making them, but it is well worth the expense in her mind. When the figurines take on too much bad fortune they break. ##### Magecraft Mana Stones - Stones with the capability to absorb magical energy from their surroundings. The quality, size, and type change how much, how fast, and from how far they can absorb mana. By using a large number of stones with a short range Erica has made a disruptor for spells and enchantments. Mage Ash Chalk - Chalk made with ashes of magical creatures. It contains and conducts magical power, making it ideal for writing out mystical scripts and spells. Erica uses it as a supplement to her boundaries and enchantments. ##### Alchemist Potion of Vision - A potion that improves the drinker's night vision and dynamic vision. Potion of Tiny Hours - A potion that alters the drinker's perception of time, stretching minutes to hours. Potion of Internal Cold - A potion that lowers the temperature of the drinker, once used for fevers. ##### Exorcist Monster Hunter's Prayer Book - A book containing only verses used as countersigns to various supernatural entities. Hand copied over generations, each new copy reinforces the text itself with the faith of the copyist. Erica had this one commissioned to be used against demons and devils. Silver Bullets - Small caliber rounds made to minimize material costs but maximize dead werewolves. Homemade Firearm - Easily concealed gun that only kind of breaks the law. While it was initially only made to be a silver delivery system, Erica thought it impractical not to carry around some lead for other situations. Variety Pack Monster Repellents - Salt, Holy Water, etc. ##### Chemistry Botulinum Toxin - Highly toxic, easily obtainable. By intentionally improperly canning foodstuffs and doing a bit of research, Erica has been able to more or less isolate botulinum bacteria for use as both a foodborne and weaponborne pathogen. ##### Mundane Bear Spray - A type of pepper spray no approved for use against humans. Stun Gun - A small electric device capable of temporarily immobilizing modest sized targets at a touch. Utility Knife - A folding knife with a sawback. Strike Anywhere Matches - Sticks of wood tipped with a chemical coating. Lighter - A metal fuel reservoir connected to a flintwheel and striker. Pencil - Wooden stick with a graphite core. Water Bottle - Bottle of water. Painting Mask - A mask used for safely spray painting even in poorly ventilated areas. Makeup Kit - Makeup, lots of concealer. ##### Miscellaneous Lucky Charms - A series of symbols, objects, and items believed to bring about protection from harm and good fortune. In a very extreme interpretation of Occam's Razor Erica has opted to sew over a hundred different protective symbols, religious and otherwise, into her clothing. It's unclear whether it has an effect, but you never can be too careful. Curse Doll & Nails - A straw effigy and long nails used in a particular curse. The ushi mairi ritual is believed to cast a curse capable of bringing about the death of a target. Erica's never used it, but it would be cool if it worked. Smoke Bombs - Small fireworks designed to produce a large amount of smoke. Erica modifies the bombs with various additives to use the smoke as a dispersal system for either chemical or magical agents rather than just a smokescreen. Foxbane Incense - A poisonous plant, particularly distasteful to fox spirits, processed into burnable blocks. While foxes are hardly a common threat, Erica has made it a bit of a hobby thinking of ways to counter foxes. **μ-**Haul Truck - Rental vehicle mainly used for moving. ### Strengths --- ##### Planning Is Everything The way Erica approaches combat is more like a hunt or even a military campaign where reconnaissance, logistics, and preparation are the name of the game. As a result, she goes into most fights with both an informational advantage and a distinct game plan. This makes her strongest early in a fight and more likely to win the less time the opponent has to go off script. ##### Disciplined She doesn't blink first. Erica isn't susceptible to verbal or scare tactics. Her ability to tamp down her own emotions and involuntary responses and reactions can make her slow to react to real danger but it more frequently allows her to keep from flinching or backing down at key moments. It also means that anyone trying to goad her or get inside her head will be about as successful as her grief counselor. ##### Innovative Erica doesn't stick to tradition when it comes to usage of skills or techniques. She's able to squeeze more efficiency or flexibility out of seemingly worthless artifacts, enchantments, and spells or put together highly synergistic strategies from common constituents. This will typically give her an element of surprise over even those familiar with the items she employs. ### Weaknesses --- ##### Plans are Worthless The same plans that put Erica in the fight at all can lead to her downfall. Her first fight ever took six months of planning and ended with her in a hospital for three months. With only a fraction of that time to work with, she won't be able to form anything near as resilient to new information or surprises situations as that. This also means that she will not be able to as finely tune her gear list to the needs of the situation to begin with. ##### Frail Small and weak even for her size. Dealing damage is very conditional and taking damage is very devastating as a result. This weakness extends to other weaknesses inherent to humans such as long reaction times and low movement speeds. ##### Item Reliant Since everything special about her lives in her grandparents' bank accounts, Erica is incapable of doing anything tougher than a brisk walk without her gear. She traditionally can't even see most of her opponents without the aid of a specialized lens. Given most of her items are also consumables and take up space, she's limited to however much she can carry or how much she can set up ahead of time. This both limits her ability to adapt and sustain combat for longer than several minutes at a time. ##### On the Edge Fighting strains her body and mind to the limit by its very nature. As a result tactics that directly assault the mind or put additional burden on the body could very well break her on the spot without any further need to fight. ##### Pushover Erica is not a very skilled practitioner at any of her chosen tactics, partially due to a lack of talent in any particular branch of combat or magecraft and partially due to a preference for coverage over depth. Either way, her tactics completely lack power moves that allow her to be the belligerent in neutral situations. Even fairly weak opponents may be able to bully their way through her best efforts if they know not to respect her. ##### Highly Specialized Exorcism and monster hunting tactics don't work especially well on regular humans or those with nonmagical abilities like psychic powers or high technology. ### Backstory --- Several hundred years in the past, she was a normal fox spirit who was essentially kidnapped into servitude as a weaponized familiar for the secret order that prepares for the coming of the Hero. So her relationship with humans was detached and not great for a while, but right before the events of the story one of the monks of the order reaches out to her and treats her nice and not like a tool and she comes to see him as a bit of a mentor/father figure. Then he dies and she takes a human form for the first time and goes out with the order to go support Hughes. ### Personality --- Empathetic, thoughtful, self assured, and generous, Kiera is hard to hate. Kiera is sensitive to the habits and feelings of others and can usually read accurately into people's intentions and desires. Rather than using this talent for manipulation, she often seeks to involve herself in other people's lives and help them even when not asked. While Kiera is still getting used to human life, she has been able to rely on Justin Hughes to help smooth out the experience as a whole. Around most people she may seem perfect, well put together, and difficult to approach, she is very goofy and playful around her close friends.

### Abilities --- ##### Transformation As a fox spirit, she has the ability to change her shape. She has come to prefer her human form. ##### Artificial Nine Tails Over her life, instead of acquiring tails over time from growing as a spirit. The Order provided her with magical weapons that when attuned to her acted as conduits for power in the way growing a new tail would. Each artifact added to her strength and abilities, granting her additional versatility when compared with a naturally developed fox spirit. ### Abilities --- ##### Oracle She is cursed with sporadic, unprompted visions of gruesome and terrible futures. They are never inaccurate, but are vague or limited enough to be misinterpreted. ##### Mana Euphemia is a rare human with the inborn ability to natively generate and manipulate mana and spiritual energy. This is what allows her to cast spells and enchantments as well as brew more powerful potions. ### Job & Skills --- ##### Shopkeeper Even thought she has left mage society, she was never raised in the modern world and as such has limited financial prospects. While helping Erica, she was able to find her place as a supplier for those aware of the hidden magical world and those who believe in crystal healing. ##### Magecraft Capable of performing true magic known as Magecraft. The folk magic that anyone can perform is more akin to shamanism as it uses totems, objects of power, and spirits rather than ones own innate mystical powers to perform feats of magic. Magecraft is reserved for those with mana control and mirrors more closely the modern conception of a wizard or witch. One who is capable of chanting a few words and waving a wand of stave to bend the fabric of reality. Still humans are the weakest at magic in the setting and Euphemia is no exception to this rule. The strength of the connection on each side is determined by the level of empathy and understanding of the participants.
