Nerassa Sweptsnow


Nerassa swore that she would ruin the lives of those who wronged her. No matter the cost.


 

 

 A dark furred tailless Catwoman, with a gold highlight on her forehead and each cheek and gold colored eyes. She's around 5’ 6” and often wears long coats and gloves to hide her lack of tail and her need for her prosthetic arms, having lost both of them long ago. She has messy gray hair she keeps in a ponytail that goes to shoulder length, and she often wears clothes with no patterns just simple gray's, blacks, and dark blues.

Backstory


The city of Visalia is a cyberpunk dystopia, ruled by the megacorporation lifetech. The city was embroiled in a war with a sentient race of robots known as the iron hands. With victory only being achieved through the use of a magic super weapon created by the capture and harvest of Naga, innately magical beings. This large use of magic brought something new. The eidolons, magical beings that caused chaos and destruction all while being undetectable without magic. However there was hope in this new battle, a scientist named Godfrey who worked for Life tech had made a discovery with four teenage girls  who had inherited magic potential due to fall out from one of the magic super weapons. Hiding their existence from Life tech godfrey trained them, and help them find ways to transform into more powerful beings to fight the eidolons. They were a team of Magical girls. Nerassa was the medic of the team. With powerful healing magic and incredible speed she danced to and fro on the battlefield making sure her teammates were all right. The magical girls beat back the eidolons, but in the final battle to seal them away tragedy struck. Alice, the leader of the team was killed. This meant that when the time to perform a magic ritual to seal the eidolons away began, they didn't have enough magic to complete it. Always one to give for her friends neurosa gave all of her magic losing her ability to transform. But thankfully providing enough, sealing the eidolons away.



However she soon learned that this cost was more than just her magic, her arms begin to atrophy and they had to be surgically removed. Unfortunately, due to her other two teammates Bertha and KC having their own personal issues crop up, Nerassa is left alone with no one to help her come to terms with the grief over losing Alice and her arms. Life became worse and worse for Nerassa. Her mother being arrested and sentenced to experimentation for committing of stealing company property, and her father drinking himself to death a year later. Alone at just 18, Rosa entered the criminal underbelly of Visalia to survive. Selling her tail to afford good quality prosthetics and a few months rent, she set up in the underbelly as the woman you go to for information. 


It wasn't an honest living and it wasn't a good living but it was living.  Unfortunately her reputation meant that no one who knew her would trust her with anything leading to neurosa becoming more and more isolated. You're awesome with bury yourself in her work being hacking, surveillance, and good old fashioned cat burglary, as well as an unhealthy amount of ciggerettes to help “deal” with her slowly deteriorating mental state. 


A decade after her group had seemingly abandoned her. A news story caught her attention. Someone was going around murdering high ranking officials of Life tech. While the company covered it up as accidents Nerassa knew better and recognized telltale signs. It was the work of her former best friend Bertha. The one who years ago had been sent away by her mother Gloria, one of the heads of Life tech, to be groomed to take Gloria's  spot in the company. But Nerassa didn't know this she thought that in her hour of need Bertha had abandoned her. And seeing that now all those years later she's not trying to find nerassa but embarking on a serial killing spree, Nerassa hits boiling point.


She makes a plan, she frames her former mentor Godfrey for human trafficking. Then as an anonymous third party convinces Bertha to take him out. His death would bring KC out of hiding in all likelihood, and would allow Nerassa to begin twisting the knife in Bertha slowly ruining her life. This plan did come to fruition but not without further complications. In the end after much lying, manipulating, and  scheming, a citywide manhunt was out for Berthas magical girl form, and Nerassa was staring down the Bertha's bat,  as Nerassa’s  anger and hatred towards the woman had finally spilled out. Her role in framing Bertha stayed secret, it seeming that all she had done was rat what Bertha did to the police.


Bertha lets Nerassa go, saying “in your words. I'm weak and defenseless without my magic. Hurting you would be pathetic of me”.

Nerassa felt the sting of these words and made a decision. She heads to the life tech headquarters and makes a deal with Gloria. She does what she does best sell information, giving life tech all the info they need on the magical girl project they thought had failed. In exchange she becomes task master of the Bertha manhunt as well as dealing with the new magical girl team Bertha was a part of, the Verdant. Additionally she wants the same procedure that had let her access her magic before done again in the hopes that her magical returns to her. Her hopes were right and her magic comes back, but it comes back wrong. No longer a graceful form but a perversion of her own body that puts her in a ferall berserker state barely able to control her actions and her rage. 


After this, She began working very closely with Bertha's mom Gloria first to deal with a renegade in Lifetech, using the experimentation the company does in a blood ritual to achieve godhood, but is stopped just in time by a transformed Nerassa. With that dealt with and a lot more info at her disposal, she begins studying the Verdant Avengers and thinks back on her interactions with them. She comes to a terrifying realization about their magic. It's not the same source as hers. The source is that of the eidolons. 


All the trauma comes pouring back,  all her anger for Bertha washes away and the tidal wave of seething rage for the Eidolons comes crashing onto her. All these years of misery Nerassa had the thought in the back of her head that at least her sacrifice meant something. If one must suffer so that thousands may live that was something she was okay with. In her most miserable days she could think upon the fact that the Eidolons were stopped. What she did mattered and while this is not a just reward, the consequences of her actions could be reward enough. This is a war, She needs to stop the Eidolons from coming back again, and if need be she will do anything to make that happen



The first being an attempt to bury the hatchet, she knows the people she wronged will never be her friends again but they need to band together once more to stop the old enemies return. At the parlay, nerassa begs bertha to see the new magical girl team as what they really are, even revealing her role in Godfreys death to prove she's not lying anymore. But Bertha insists that the source of these new magical girls power is a magical creature named Dreaming Rose, and that she was born anew from a mixture of the death of the Eidolons and Alice. That all she wants to do is take down the tyrannical company lifetech, something Bertha is fully behind. 


Nerassa simply replies that this thing is using Alices death to manipulate Bertha, to which Bertha leaves the parley in disgust. KC expreses gratitude to nerassa for the death of Godfrey as his experiments had led to the death of KC's sister and that they mistrust Dreaming Rose as well. But KC says that they can not side with lifetech  due to all the heinous crimes they have committed against the people of visalia. Nerassa says she's by no means happy about it but that this is the best option to fight back the eidolons due to their resources. KC replies that it's too high a cost to pay and that they will be gathering forces within the criminal underbelly and resistance groups in case Dreaming Rose does turn out to be lying. They leave the parley and Nerassa is left alone, facing the fact that the easy way to fight the eidolons is gone, and that the path ahead for her with lifetech will be a bloody one. 


However when she returns she finds a strange envelope on her desk in her new office at the top floor of Lifetechs building. It speaks of a tournament, and a wish, and Nerassa sees a glimmer of hope. A way to save this wretched city without further bloodshed.

Personality


Nerassa is a cold calculating manipulator. While she used compassionate soul and medic who cared about other people, years of trauma and betrayal have pushed her into a mindset where she feels the need to suppress those feelings to get what needs to be done, done. When presented with an obstacle she will plan on how to deal with it then make backup plans in case of emergency. Depending on how important her goal is, she will very easily justify doing terrible things because sacrifices are necessary and the end justifies the means. She's a solitary person who is very unlikely to let down her walls around anyone, let alone talk about what's on her mind. She is also incredibly Petty and vindictive and if you wrong her she will find ways to make your life hell.

  • 1 Naga bloodstone. A magical stone housing the soul of a Naga. This magical item upon breaking releases a massive search of magic that neurosa can channel. Given magic's warping effect in her world, this will disrupt, neutralize, even corrupt technological items. Including Nerassas prosthetic arms. It's a last ditch one use item and an unethical one as well, one Nerassa would use but with much anguish.

Abilities

Nerassa's abilities are mainly related to her mental faculties and ability to act in what way seems necessary to get what she wants. For example she can plan out a way to frame someone for murder, strategically plan a large scale battle,  or know just what buttons to push to drive someone over the edge. 

She also has the ability to transform into a much more powerful magical form. In this form she becomes much faster, much hardier and can heal serious injuries. She also grows two swords from stumps where her arms were that she can use to fight, having previously been trained in fighting with dual swords.


Strengths


Determined, cunning, emotionally intelligent and able to come up with plans. A wide array of tools and knowledge of how to best use them to exploit enemy weaknesses.

 

Weaknesses


Single-minded, Petty, can get focused on the details and miss the big picture, incredibly fragile with low stamina from smokers lungs, while she's a planner who's able to create several backup plans, when forced to improvise; she often makes rash decisions that come back to bite her. Often can fail to keep calm under pressure. Because of her setting, guns are a prohibited item so she has not had the time to train with the one she wields. She'd be slow to reload, not have much ammo, and poor aim outside of close range


When transformed

Despite having access to her  magic she's unable to properly use any of her old magical abilities, she enters a feral berserker state with no real sense of Martial prowess, can be incredibly predictable and often will just attack the closest thing to her.

Nerassa is a villain. A villain you can understand the motives of yes, but someone who constantly takes the wrong step out of shortsightedness and stubborn pettiness.
